Forge Goes Crazy

You can even create your own custom power-ups. Want a power-up that gives you an overshield, turns your avatar blue, and makes you deal twice the normal amount of damage? You can make it and then drop it into one of your custom Forged levels. Damage and attack, gravity, speed, health regeneration, shield effects, duration and a whole lot more can be tweaked, stacked, and then packaged into one nice little power-up to use in the game.”Reporting straight from Game Conference 2007 in Leipzig, Germany, Erik Brudviq of IGN unveil ed juicy details about The Forge, Halo 3’s map “editor” (none existing geometry can be altered, so it is more of a Halo 3 customization tool).Since damage, gravity, speed, power-up effects and almost anything else can be altered, the game can pretty much turn into any type of shooter imaginable. Add to this Forge is a live editing tool, meaning all alterations can be made while up to eight players are going at it. While there are some restrictions (i.e. you cannot eliminate a vehicle while someone is driving it), it opens the door for many fun game types that involve two “map masters” quickly stockpiling their teams for never-before-seen types of mayhem. Lots of craziness will be had, especially during the initial weeks after release when people look to be crazy. Until the dust settles and competitive game types are established, every Halo player and their sister will have their own “Forged” settings they think are the best. Expect a lot of debate – in the form of actual maps and game types to try – from Halo 3 than any other title in the past.

The ability to create customized power-ups excites even the most conservative player. Think of the possibilities. Double-damage to counter the overshield. A long-lasting 125% damage power-up that will make the BR a 3-shot killer. Or an “ub3r” power-up that bestows overshield, invisibility and quad damage at the very peak of some level requiring a rocket jump just to get to it – a dangerous location with a high reward. All sorts of fun will be had when Forging.

But when things get serious, as they tend to do over video games in the MLG offices, Forge will give us the ability to tweak the game in most of its competitive game play facets. Of course all of the customized Forge maps will be shareable and the best ones, hand picked and reviewed by Bungie, will make their way onto H3’s Matchmaking. Given the success of Team Hardcore – an MLG matchmaking list in its ideology – we can be sure to see an awesome “MLG-like” matchmaking list in Halo 3’s future. Ultimately The Forge is taking a step towards console customization that has long been available to the competitive PC community and this big step should excite any die-hard console fan.”

Sounds Amazing, read more about it here.

Equipment

A new class of usable items in Halo 3 are known as Equipment. These items have various effects and functions, ranging from defensive effects (Bubble Shield and Regenerator), or objects which blind or confuse the enemy (Flare, and Radar Jammer), to ones which can actually harm and kill (Power Drainer and Tripmine). Most of these are named by their function.

They are not designed to give one player a significant advantage, as they affect both sides equally, but as items which change the dynamic of a fight momentarily.

The Bubble Shield, for example, produces a protective dome but, a person inside cannot fire out, just as a person outside cannot fire in. This creates a stalemate situation until the Bubble Shield fails, or players move through the shield onto one side of it. Equally, once the Portable Gravity Lift is dropped it can be used by both sides to gain greater height into the air, often to get over specific obstacles.

Finally!

Still busy adding bits and bobs but we are finally online!
